WE BELIEVE IN CHANGE
RARES Foundation have selected 4 species level programs – one each at local, state, national and international levels.
With such a huge amount of our wildlife requiring assistance, choosing where to start was difficult. We selected these four projects because of our close affiliations with other organisations supporting these programs and because we believe we can make more of a difference by focussing on a small select group of projects that are dear to our heart.
Currently there are over 1,950 nationally declared threatened species of animal and plant in Australia alone. Considering that around 20 years ago the number was 1,450 we are not winning the war against loss of biodiversity. However, if we all take the view that we need to pitch in and help we can start decreasing that number.
There are solutions and we need to be part of them.
BALI STARLING
The beauty and the gentle, trusting nature of these birds have worked against them, making them prized catches among poachers.
BUSH STONE-CURLEW
The bush stone-curlew is also known as the bush thick-knee. It is a ground-dwelling, mainly nocturnal bird that is at risk to predation by foxes and cats.
SPOT-TAILED QUOLL
Quoll numbers are declining. The major cause is land clearing, with subsequent loss and fragmentation of habitat.
